Yes, my friends, today is the true day to celebrate our independence. Today marks year number one in the bag for Ryan Smoker Design. A year ago today I decided to walk away from my comfortable full time job and live my dream. It was only possible because of the amazing people I was privileged to work with and several wonderful clients — the ones that make this whole thing worth it. I could name them all here, but you know who you are and you deserve my thanks and appreciation. I’m humbled to have come this far with you.
Last month I created an art piece for the 6×6 Show at the Infantree in December, to celebrate my coming anniversary (see below). Yes, that’s the typeface I developed this year, which you can read about here. The piece ended up selling, which was another first for me this year. I think it’s a wonderful example of combining art with design aesthetic, something I hope to pursue even more.
It’s hard to put into words what this year has meant for me. There’s no limit to how far this will go, and I’m excited to walk the path and see what develops.
